Motorists are feeling the pinch once again as petrol and diesel prices hit all-time highs, and there are still planned rises in fuel tax – even though UK drivers already pay the highest fuel tax in Europe!!
The average price at the pumps has risen to £137.44p per litre for petrol, according to Experian Catalist; and diesel has been hitting new records every day since Sunday 25 Feb 2012, peaking at 144.67p a litre today Friday 2 March 2012.
According to the motoring group TheAA, this has added £3.50 to the cost of filling up the average 50-litre petrol tank of a family car year-on-year, and £7.02 to the average 80-litre diesel tank.
What with childcosts recently being reported as seeing a 6% cost increase, and with the next budget looming, these price increases continue to apply pressure to household bills across the UK.
