In the current economic climate people feel insecure with escalating costs and the increased threat of redundancy, and with many people living payday to payday and not being able to afford the nicer things in life many people are now looking for ways to earn an extra income in their spare time.

When we work a job we have no control over when we can get a pay rise or even work overtime, the only we can have control over what we earn is by being our own boss.

The thought of starting your own business though can be very daunting and this stops many people in their tracks; but starting a part time network marketing home business is both low risk and low cost.

Network marketing offers the opportunity to work flexible hours from home and create a residual income that will pay you over and over again.

But with so many home business opportunities on offer these days how do you know which one is best for you?

Here are some guidelines to help you carefully weigh-up all the information to ensure you choose the right opportunity for you; as what suits one person may not suit another.

1.    Keep an open mind.

We so often pre-judge business concepts and brands offer, it is therefore so important to check out ALL the information relating to an opportunity.

2.    Do you believe in the products or services?

If the products or services are of a new nature then it may be short lived and only likely to provide a short term income, but if you are looking for an income which will pay you for many years then it makes sense to choose an opportunity that has products or services that are in demand and have an established repeat business nature.

Personal use of the products or services will help you in promoting them but the way in which the products or services are moved is crucial to whether an opportunity is suitable for you, as if it is by means that you are not comfortable with then you will be paralysed from taking action. If you were required to persuade family and friends to buy your products or services would you be happy to do that?

3.    Is there a proven system in place to support you in building your business?

You need to ensure that there is a system you can follow to ensure your success.

4.    Is there a substantial investment to get started?

As with any business you need your operating equipment and materials so generally home business opportunities do require a small investment, maybe a couple of hundred pounds.

5.    Is the company a member of the Direct Selling Association (DSA)?

Most, but not all, ethical business opportunities will be members of the DSA and even though this does not give any guarantee, member companies are required to operate within specific guidelines.

6.    Ensure your decision is a well informed decision.

Check out all of the information so you can make a well informed decision based on the facts.

Many people will ask those close to them for their opinion but they do not necessarily know all the facts so how qualified are they to comment; some may have preconceived ideas which may mislead you. You may even find someone who has failed in the opportunity you are considering and these people are always happy to share their opinion with you! But if you want to succeed then speak to those who are already succeeding in that particular opportunity.

If you follow these guidelines for each home business opportunity then you will ensure you choose the right opportunity with the right people, products and services.
