Research carried out recently found that a UK adult has on average 147 friends on Facebook, but a large number of us (29%) only see between one and five of these friends regularly.
When asked about our friendships on social network sites, the most popular places to meet these friends were at school (25%), work (25%) and from having known them forever (19%).
It also found that we believe that the best way to make new friends is to take up a hobby (50%), followed by work (27%), and almost a fifth of us (19%) admit using our children as a way of meeting other parents.
With work featuring highly in both answers to where friends have been made, and where is good to meet new people, it just goes to show how important our job is – not just to our bank balance but to our social life too.
This is something that Kerry Eedes found when she started her home based business, with the aim of having a job that would help pay the bills whilst giving her some free time.
She quickly saw that as her home based business worked around her other jobs she could build it up part-time and gradually cut down on her other work. She has now given up all other employment and enjoys the freedom her home based business gives her – allowing her the time to make new friends.
