Aim A Little Higher and work hard to be your best

In December 2013 I attended a meeting where I had the privilege of meeting Kamal Hyman, who inspired me to aim a little higher.

kamal hyman

I knew of Kamal because one of the inspirational speakers I follow sent me a link to watch his video (Kamal Hyman Up Hill Battle – Aim A Little Higher) …

so I was really excited when Kamal took to the stage at this training event.

Kamal Hyman was just 19 years old, yet his message is such a powerful one.

Aim A Little Higher Message

Kamal explains that you don’t get anywhere in life by sitting on the fence;
saying you can either aim a little higher and jump off and work hard to be your best,
or you can join the majority and settle for less.

But too many of us are frightened to step out of our comfort zone,
afraid of being left alone whilst chasing our dreams;
we question ourselves asking what can we achieve
and we tell ourselves excuses over and over again so much so that they become the truth.

And it got me to thinking how lucky I hade been to find myself a mentor who understood me, who connected with me, and who had guided me in the direction to finally start to realise the things I enjoyed doing and that can take me to where I want to be in life.

It is true to say that once your mindset is right, the battle is won …

when you start to believe in yourself you can achieve whatever it is you choose.

Inspired To Aim A Little Higher

So why do we always look for proof that things will work for us?

… instead of looking for evidence, why don’t we become the proof!

If you surround yourself with people who bring the best out in you, you become inspired to aim a little higher as Kamal suggests …

we can become the person we want to be and live the life we choose to live.

So many people do not try to achieve their goals, dreams and aspirations because they feel it is too big a task …

well there is a clue in the title of this post:

Aim A Little Higher

How do you eat an elephant?

one bite at a time!

This is a reference commonly used when talking about goal setting and how to achieve a goal.

The truth of the matter is that big goals can be daunting, and it’s way too easy to become overwhelmed by them.

The key is to break the larger goal down into small steps.

You see, the elephant is too big, and the thought of eating a whole elephant is way too overwhelming.

If you leave your focus there, you won’t be able to do what needs to be done to achieve it.

But if you decide to cut a piece off, cook it, sit down at a table and eat it, then you’ve started.

It’s all about taking one step at a time …

What’s holding you back from stepping forward and pursuing your dreams?
